Vital Statistics<\/h3>\n

-Did you know that Coco Cola was originally green and had cocaine in it?<\/p>\n

-Did you know that an ostrich\u2019s eye is bigger than its brain?<\/p>\n

-Did you know that there is no word in the English language that rhymes with orange\u2026or silver?<\/p>\n

-Did you know that Barbie has a last name?\u00a0 It\u2019s Roberts.<\/p>\n

-Did you know that on the one-dollar bill there is an owl?\u00a0 It\u2019s in the top right corner.<\/p>\n

-Did you know that a female praying mantis chews her partner\u2019s head off during mating?<\/p>\n

-Did you know it takes 3000 cows to supply the NFL with enough leather for a year\u2019s supply of footballs?
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

There is so much information available in the world today.\u00a0 But it isn\u2019t all of equal value.\u00a0 Some of it is interesting.\u00a0 Some of it is even important.\u00a0 But some of it is vital!\u00a0 The knowledge that is vital is contained in our Standard Works.<\/p>\n

Did you set a goal for 2013 to study your scriptures?<\/strong>
\n We hope so!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Joseph taught the Saints that knowledge was a necessary part of our mortal journey, for \u201ca man is saved no faster than he [gains] knowledge,\u201d<\/em> [Joseph Smith, in History of the Church, 4:588.]\u00a0 DC 131:6 tells us it is impossible to be saved in ignorance.<\/p>\n

My daughter <\/strong>Alisa reminded me of this great quote by <\/strong>Marion G. Romney:\u00a0 \u201cI feel certain that if, in our homes, parents will read from the Book of Mormon prayerfully and regularly, both by themselves and with their children, the spirit of that great book will come to permeate our homes and all who dwell therein. The spirit of reverence will increase; mutual respect and consideration for each other will grow. The spirit of contention will depart. Parents will counsel their children in greater love and wisdom. Children will be more responsive and submissive to the counsel of their parents. Righteousness will increase. Faith, hope, and charity\u2014the pure love of Christ\u2014will abound in our homes and lives, bringing in their wake peace, joy, and happiness.\u201d<\/em> (Ensign, May 1980, p. 67).<\/p>\n

These are amazing promises!<\/p>\n

The word my daughter likes is permeate.\u00a0 I used to make chili sauce every summer with the ripe tomatoes from the garden.\u00a0 My kids swore they could smell it before they even walked in the house.\u00a0 In fact, they said their hair and clothes and even the towels in the bathroom reeked of it.\u00a0 That\u2019s permeate!<\/p>\n

What permeates your time, your home, your life?\u00a0 Is it the vital truths of the scriptures?<\/p>\n
