{"id":5451,"date":"2012-11-19T21:10:01","date_gmt":"2012-11-19T21:10:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brucebarton.com\/journey\/?p=5451"},"modified":"2012-11-26T20:50:38","modified_gmt":"2012-11-26T20:50:38","slug":"thoughts-2012-11-19-think-to-thank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.brucebarton.com\/journey\/uncategorized\/thoughts-2012-11-19-think-to-thank","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts 2012.11.19 Think to Thank"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fcbkbttn_button\">\n                            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">\n                                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brucebarton.com\/journey\/wp-content\/plugins\/facebook-button-plugin\/images\/standard-facebook-ico.png\" alt=\"Fb-Button\" \/>\n                            <\/a>\n                        <\/div><div class=\"fcbkbttn_like \"><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/www.brucebarton.com\/journey\/uncategorized\/thoughts-2012-11-19-think-to-thank\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\" layout=\"standard\"  width=\"225px\" size=\"small\"><\/fb:like><\/div><\/div><h2 style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><strong>Think to Thank<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-5454\" style=\"margin-right: 5px;\" title=\"children praying2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brucebarton.com\/journey\/wp-content\/uploads\/children-praying2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brucebarton.com\/journey\/wp-content\/uploads\/children-praying2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.brucebarton.com\/journey\/wp-content\/uploads\/children-praying2.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I tended three of my grandkids last week while their parents were out of town.\u00a0 For Family Home Evening on Monday night I said:\u00a0 \u201cWho wants to be glorious?\u201d They all said they did so I quoted this scripture to them.<\/p>\n<p>D &amp; C 78:19 \u2013 \u201c<em>And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I asked them what they thought the word glorious meant.\u00a0 One of them said, \u201cAwesome in every way.\u201d\u00a0 Sounded good to me.<\/p>\n<p>Then we talked about what it meant to receive <em>all <\/em>things with thankfulness, \u2026not just the good things but even the challenging aspects of our lives.\u00a0 After that we wondered about and discussed the things of this earth that might be \u201cadded unto\u201d us\u2026..and what else besides those things would constitute the \u201cyea, more\u201d part of the scripture.<\/p>\n<p>I asked:\u00a0 \u201cIs God telling us to say thank you to Him or do you think more than that is required?\u201d\u00a0 We decided that truly taking the time to notice and appreciate the many miracles of our lives is wonderful. Acknowledging that it all comes from\u00a0God is also important.\u00a0 Acting on our gratitude by serving others is even better.<\/p>\n<p>As we started to work on memorizing the scripture I told them they should try saying some prayers of gratitude this month and just thank God for some of the things we don\u2019t usually think to thank him for.\u00a0 Leave out all the \u201cplease bless this and please bless that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As I put my 8-year old grandson to bed, I listened to his prayer of thanks.\u00a0 He did a great job!\u00a0 He said thanks for their home, his bedroom, his bed, warm blankets and a pillow. But I really knew he had taken the lesson to heart when he said, \u201cThank you for the trees and the leaves and the carbon dioxide they get and the oxygen they give so we can breathe.\u201d J I almost laughed out loud!<\/p>\n<p>(Somewhere there\u2019s a second or third grade teacher who would be very pleased to know that one of her students remembers something she taught him!)<\/p>\n<p>But he had the right spirit!\u00a0 There are so many blessings, and\u00a0 \u201cOrdinary Miracles\u201d that happen in our lives every day that we take for granted.\u00a0 Sarah McLachlan sings a song by that name.
